THE VENUE - RAMS HEAD INN

With fabulous moorland views this multi award-winning 450 year old Inn boasts roaring real fires, log stoves, wonderful memorabilia and fresh imaginative first class food. 21 day aged steak; fabulous seafood and game tempt the palate, together with an excellent wine list, many by the glass. Exciting sandwiches and tasty light bites also feature on the regularly changing menu. Drinkers are also very welcome with Real Ale always available.

The onsite Farm & Wine shop, The Pantry, is brimming with local produce. They stock everything from hampers, jams, chutneys, biscuits, snacks, desserts, cakes, tea, coffee, fresh grass fed aged meat, game, fish, steaks, pork pies, bread, wine, ports, brandy, gin & champagne plus much, much more all at great prices. Come and have a browse round after your run.

THE ROUTE

The new route starts from the Rams Head with a fast downhill section towards Piethorne Res. You then head towards Hollingworth Lake but turning back at Rakewood (CP1) before heading back under then over the motorway towards Lydgate (CP2). Climb to Blackstone Edge and then follow the Pennine way to the layby near the Windy Hill Mast (CP3) before heading back down to Piethorne and the climb back up to the Rams Head.

12 miles of good trails and paths with over 2000 feet of climbing. 

As it’s February, all runners must carry full FRA kit (Full body waterproof cover; hat and gloves; Paper map (not digital) and traditional compass; spare clothing for the day’s weather; extra food and drink.

Each checkpoint will have basic supplies of water and sweets.

Hot soup will be provided back in the pub free for all runners and the pub will also do a special runners meal at a discounted price.

Unable to run? As runners it can be frustrating when you can’t join in the fun. But if you can spare the time, then volunteer to be a marshal at one of our races. You will be given race credit to use at any of our races once you are up and about again. Just contact us.
